Get Schleicher County Court Records

Need a case file in Schleicher County? Start with the clerk of the court that handled it. The combined local clerk office handles both county and district court records, while Justice Court and Eldorado Municipal Court each keep their own files. What you can get varies. Sometimes you simply view the docket, other times you order a plain copy or pay for a certified one. A statewide search can point you toward electronic records, but the local clerk still holds the full case file. When you request Schleicher County court records, bring a cause or citation number, a tight date range, and the name of the document you want. That detail speeds things up.

How to Get Court Records

District and county case requests go to County and District Clerk Marsha L. Maskill. The official County Clerk page supports contact at P.O. Drawer 580, Eldorado, TX 76936-0580, by phone at (325) 853-2833, by fax at (325) 853-2768, by email at scclerk@co.schleicher.tx.us, or in person. The courthouse hours page lists weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., while warning that office hours may vary.

Online, test re:SearchTX for participating public case information. Registration or login was required during inspection, and Schleicher coverage was not verified. The county clerk's general contact form is an inquiry channel, not a record database or checkout system. A phone call can confirm the custodian and fee before a mailed, faxed, or emailed request.

  1. Name the court, case category, and cause or citation number; use a narrow date range if the number is unknown.
  2. Choose inspection, paper copy, electronic copy, or certified copy, then select counter, mail, phone, fax, email, contact form, or state portal.
  3. Identify the docket entries, pleading, order, judgment, costs, exhibit, or other existing item needed.
  4. Ask for a fee estimate and the accepted payment method before authorizing a large search or copy order.
  5. Ask for nonsealed or redacted material if part of the file is restricted, and confirm delivery details.

Schleicher Record Custodians

The local combined office does not merge every court file. District felony and district civil records route to the District Clerk function. County criminal, civil, probate, juvenile, and mental-health categories route to the County Clerk function. The same local office answers both, but a request should still state the correct court.

Justice Court records go to Judge Rahegyn Franke's office, P.O. Box 536, Eldorado, at (325) 853-2766 or jp.scco@co.schleicher.tx.us. Eldorado Municipal Court records use P.O. Box 713, Eldorado, (325) 853-2691, or cityofeldorado@gmail.com. Federal cases use PACER and the Northern District of Texas, San Angelo Division. Sending the request to the right custodian prevents delays and incorrect fee quotes.

Schleicher Combined Clerk Counter

The official County Clerk source presents the combined county and district clerk contact and its public services.

Schleicher County court records combined clerk page

The combined title is convenient, but requests still need a court and case type. A district civil order, county probate file, JP citation, and municipal case do not become one record set because their offices are close. The clerk can quote a current fee, identify the available format, and explain whether the item is sealed, redacted, stored offline, or held by another court. That direct answer is especially important where no public county document viewer exists.

Types of Court Records

A court record can mean the docket sheet, one filed paper, a signed order, the judgment, or the nonsealed case file. State and local sources confirm criminal, civil, probate, juvenile, mental-health, traffic, small-claims, debt, and eviction functions across Schleicher courts. Availability differs. A category supported by the clerk's LGS system is not necessarily open online or open without redaction.

  • Docket sheets and case summaries showing procedural entries
  • Pleadings, motions, answers, and other filed documents
  • Signed orders, judgments, and public disposition records
  • Public civil, criminal, probate, and lower-court case files
  • Copies of public exhibits or cost records when maintained and releasable

Three Different Record Requests

A docket sheet is the chronological index of case events. It can show that a motion was filed or an order was signed, but the short entry is not the motion or order. A filed document is the actual pleading, exhibit, or order behind that entry. A judgment is the court's formal decision and may need certification for use in another official process.

Describe the exact item instead of asking for everything. Inspection can help identify the useful docket lines before copies are made. If another court or agency requires an official reproduction, ask whether a certified judgment or certified full document is needed. This distinction can reduce cost and avoid receiving an index when the actual signed order was required.

What a Court Record Contains

A Schleicher County court file can contain the case header, party roles, filed papers, settings, orders, judgment, costs, and public exhibits. Read the header and court first. Then read entries in date order and separate past settings from the current setting. Check a document title against the actual document. No local disposition-code sheet or verified sample number format was found, so unexplained abbreviations should be confirmed with the clerk rather than guessed.

Cause numberThe clerk's identifier; use the exact printed form.
PleadingsPetitions, motions, answers, and other filed papers.
Orders and judgmentsSigned rulings and the court's formal decision.
Docket sheetChronological filings, settings, resets, and outcomes.
ExhibitsFiled material, subject to access and redaction rules.

Schleicher Requests in Writing

A clear written request gives the court, record category, cause or citation number, and a narrow event or filing date. State whether the request is for inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy. Name each docket entry or document if known, identify the preferred delivery method, and request a cost estimate. Ask the office to confirm receipt and redirect the request if another court is the custodian.

The clerk page lists mail, fax, email, and a general contact form. It does not state attachment limits, accepted electronic formats, or a guaranteed turnaround. Do not assume same-day service. Ask whether retrieval or redaction is required and when the record can be inspected or sent. The office is not required to create a custom report that it does not maintain.

Certified Copies and Fees

A plain copy reproduces the public record without a clerk's certificate. A certified copy includes the clerk's certification and is often requested when another court or official body requires proof of authenticity. Schleicher County's posted schedule lists copy and certification items, while Government Code Chapter 51 supplies district-clerk reference points. Ask which schedule controls the requested record before paying.

County posted copy$1 per page
County posted certified copy$1 per page

Court Fees Versus Recording Fees

The County Clerk page also lists land-record recording fees, vital-record fees, wills for safekeeping, and other services. Those rates should not be applied to a court docket request merely because the same office posts them. The first-page recording fee and name-index charges concern recorded instruments, not every court copy.

Texas Government Code Chapter 51 distinguishes search, copy, certification, and electronic calculations for district-clerk work. A re:SearchTX document charge is another separate channel. Give the clerk the court and document type, then get a current written quote. The county page does not publish all copy-payment methods.

Public Access and Sealed Records

Public access does not mean every page of every file is open. Sealed, juvenile, mental-health, protective, warrant, family, and sensitive-identifier material may be withheld or redacted under specific law or order. Ask for the nonsealed portion and the authority for any denied item. An absent online result is not a ruling that the case never existed.

Key Rules:

Texas Judicial Branch Open Records Policy explains why court-case requests do not follow the ordinary agency process.

Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 addresses inspection, copying, exclusions, and exemptions for covered judicial records.

Current Texas court rules provide the source for Rule 76a and other court-access rules.

Older Schleicher Court Records

Schleicher County adopted local e-filing rules in 2008, a concrete point in its court-technology history. Current verification names LGS as the clerk's case-management system, and eFileTexas lists limited search status. None of those facts proves that each older paper file was digitized or that every electronic document is public.

For an older matter, give the clerk a narrow date range, known party or caption, court, and record type. Ask whether the file is indexed electronically, held on paper or another medium, and available for counter inspection. The official pages do not state the location of microfilm, docket books, or offsite archives. A retrieval estimate from the clerk is more reliable than assuming an instant portal result.
